Chips JU is holding an online consultation workshop on 6 October 2026 to help shape its 2027 Work Programme, focused on "Chips for AI, AI for Chips." It brings together the Electronic Components and Systems community to discuss potential 2027 call topics, industrial needs, and technology priorities, structured around three areas: adaptive and autonomous systems across their lifecycle, AI-driven chip design, and system-level memory architectures for AI. The event will host experts who have prepared draft topic concepts which participants will give feedback on based on their relevance and ambition, propose new ideas, and flag key gaps and opportunities for Europe, with all input feeding directly into the Work Programme 2027 and its call topics.
Join the event to hear from the experts and share your ideas about the current development in the domain of Chips and AI.
The workshop will be structured around three sessions:
Session 1: Foundations for Autonomous Systems Made in Europe (9:00–11:00)
- Semiconductor foundations for adaptation and autonomy across the system lifecycle
- Nature-inspired AI: neuromorphic computing, event-based sensing, swarm intelligence
- Hardware/system plasticity: reconfigurable AI accelerators, self-optimising compute fabrics
Session 2: AI for Chip Design (11:15–13:00)
- AI-driven EDA tools for design, verification and optimisation
- Shorter design cycles, lower costs and barriers for fabless companies, SMEs, researchers
- Strengthening European sovereignty in chip design tools, datasets and design flows
Session 3: System-Level Memory Architectures for AI (14:00–15:45)
- Disaggregated memory systems and compute-near-memory integration
- Memory-centric SoC co-design
- Software stacks for heterogeneous memory systems
- Focus on performance, energy efficiency, scalability and resource utilisation
