Best Practice: European Chips Skills Academy

The European Chips Skills Academy is a project supported by the European Union through the Erasmus+ project, is based on the Alliance for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills and was established as part of the broader METIS project action plan.  It was launched in 2023 and has a duration of 4 years, including 18 consortium members and associate partners, and is coordinated by  SEMI Europe. It is an important multilateral network for industrial companies, academia, vocational training providers, and numerous other stakeholders, focusing on education and training in microelectronics. The philosophy behind the alliance is to jointly and cohesively address the sector's skills shortage. It is based on three main pillars and objectives: applying strategic and collaborative approaches between industry and education to achieve the goals of sustainable competitiveness, social equity and resilience, bridging the gap between education, vocational training and industry, especially regarding emerging professional profiles and the new skills needed in the field of microelectronics, and more specifically working towards the operationalisation and implementation of EU tools such as EQF, ESCO, EUROPASS and EQAVET and the competence frameworks such as DigComp, EntreComp and GreenComp.
